The Chairman of the Board of Taxation, Mr Richard Warburton, today welcomed the appointment of Mr Bruce Paine as Secretary to the Board. The Board’s Secretariat is provided by the Treasury.
Bruce has held a number of Senior Executive Service positions in the Treasury. During the period 1994-2000, he filled various roles in the business taxation policy area of Treasury and was a Team Leader in the secretariat of the Ralph Review of Business Taxation.
During 2002 and 2003, Bruce provided policy advice on medical indemnity issues as part of the Prime Minister’s Medical Indemnity Taskforce, and was part of the secretariat of the Government’s Medical Indemnity Policy Review Panel that reported in December 2003.
Bruce holds a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the Australian National University and his personal interests include sailing and other forms of recreational sport.
He will take up his appointment from 9 February.
Mr Warburton said that Bruce Paine’s strong background in high level policy advising, legislative development and consultation in the tax area would be invaluable to the Board. He looked forward to working with him.
Mr Warburton said he also wished to take the opportunity to publicly thank Mr Gerry Antioch for his work as Secretary to the Board from August 2002 until November 2003, and to wish him well in his new Treasury role.
